This reminds me of something...

I don't really want to say this, but these songs sound like my first attempts at music 3 years ago... I can see that you're experimenting and trying to get a feel for composing, which is great. This song has an EXTREMELY random structure and the synthesizers are very harsh. Really the only advice anyone can give you at this stage is to spend time practicing and try to push yourself to write better songs. I spent about 8 hours a day for almost 2 years to get to the point where I am now musically. Just try to write songs you would like to listen to, like while you're driving or something... Or it might help if you write songs for someone you know. Find whatever works to raise your standards so you keep getting better!

ty, and keep in mind this song was made in about 3 days of me learning how to make techno.

Questionable use of pitchbend...

This song lacks vision/structure. A lot of it doesn't make any musical sense to my ears. The beginning up to 0:46 could be kind of interesting, but ultimately sounds like you were messing with your pitchbend, landed on a few sour notes, then threw some drums on top of it... But here's the good news... 0:46 - 1:11 definitely needs to be expanded on, because IT SOUNDS SWEET! I would delete everything after 1:11 (except 1:40 until the end, if you like that part), and just expand the riff from 0:46. You can keep looping it and use it as a bassline, to add some chord progressions or leads/solos over it... I think if you experiment and invest some more time into this song, you could end up with something awesome! Good luck and keep learning/developing your sound!

Nagol215 responds:

TY SO MUCH!! Ill be posting a new version of this song maybe in the next month hopefully

I can't believe you made this in only a few hours!

This song is awesome! That sucks so bad that you don't have fruity loops, so you basically lost the song... You know there are free music making programs, right? You could use them and save the songs until you get fruity loops, which in my opinion isn't the greatest software anyway. They talk about some free programs in the audio forums... Cheers to your future compositions! I hope you get fruity loops or some other program FAST!

This song definitely has potential!

I really like the chord progression you have here. It really sticks with you. The leads/solos are pretty good, too. My only complaint is that it is basically the same chord progression the entire time, which lasts a surprisingly long time before becoming tedious because it is a nice piece, but in my opinion I think you should expand upon 1:40 - 1:50 and build up some new progressions and take the song on a bit of an unexpected detour before leading back into the main riff and fading out... It just needs a little more work, then I would probably favorite this song. Keep up the cool style!

Free2Play responds:

Thanks! For whatever reason it never actually occured to me to change up the chord progression lol, I always think about the melody too much. My songs always feel repetitive to me and I've been wanting to change that. It'll help when I own FL10 and can work on songs more than 2 hours lol. But thanks I'm going to try out that idea! (I feel stupid for not doing it)

Pretty nice, melodic stuff!

The guitar recording sounds a little harsh and should maybe be mixed better, but I'm also playing this on laptop speakers right now. I really like the backing music you made (keyboards, xylophone). I could definitely see this in an animation! I think this is your best song to date!

Triplejc responds:

Thanks dude! I re-upped it just now and added in another guitar part to make it fit together a little bit nicer.
:)

This is some pretty strange territory!

The beat in the beginning doesn't really bring any musical joy to my ears until the choir starts to fade in. Then you just drift away... The song's only saving grace is that ambiance! I also think the song ends too soon... It would be awesome if you kept building up even more ambient bliss and just ended the song with some really haunting choir fade out or an intense, spacey dubstep riff instead of the glitchy pitch drop. Cheers for putting this all together! It was pretty enjoyable the second time around!

Very interesting music here!

Dramatic, happy, intense, happy, angry, etc. Sounds very promising and well executed... It really puts some images in your head! I like all of the different styles in a lot of the previews. My least favorite was the really happy orchestral clip. How many songs are here exactly? 4? You get a 9/10 5/5 because they all sound professional and left an impression on me. The only thing I can critique is that the previews seem to overlap a little at times, instead of one clearly fading out and another fading in (does 1:10 start a new song?). The last two clips were awesome! Congratulations on completing such a vivid soundtrack!

WinglessStudios responds:

Thankyou for the review :) and actually the overlapping was on purpose truthfully. there where about 8 songs actually lol and yes 1:10 is one of the transitions ^^ I'm glad you think i'm so pro lol jk thankyou so much for your review I'm glad you enjoyed the music, please enjoy more of my music!! lol sorry couldn't help it. Thankyou for the review!

That was fanatastic!

Reminds me of some good Xploding Plastix songs. Just the inspiration I needed (until 3:49)! I feel like that synth voice doesn't mesh with the rest of the song (maybe something a little softer?). If you let the bassline play for a little bit and slowly fade in that synth, it might fit better. Maybe that synth should slowly creep in around 4:18 to transition into the next part. That synth voice just is not my favorite... Great song! I can still rock out to the first 3 1/2 minutes!

InvisibleObserver responds:

Sweet sort of. Its almost like two different songs cut off at that point. Beginning half being down tempo, second being more fidgety/dance oriented.

I'll have to checkout Xploding Plastix, I'm not familiar.

This beat is sick!

The song starts off great and has a nice dancey tone. The only complaint I have to make is that the drums sound horrible in my opinion. It's cool if you were trying to go for more realistic drums VS electronic drums like most techno songs, but these just aren't a good match. Also, you might want to write a couple different drum parts, because the first drum part sounds great at 0:42, but before that (when it is still the same beat), I feel it doesn't do the other instruments justice. After about 1:30ish, even though I like the style and sound of the song, it just gets too repetitive. Keep pushing yourself musically! You definitely have skill!

scaven responds:

Wow! Thanks for detailed constructive critics (especially for pointing exact times) :)

This song makes me want to drive!

The main issue is mastering! It feels like my headphones are exploding! Also, the solo around 1:25 might have a couple sour notes. Other than that, sounds pretty good! Keep it up!

joethesouleater responds:

All the notes are in key, though the mastering may be screwing with that, I went and made everything a little quieter, hopefully it sounds better now. Thanks for the review.

I make electronic music. I also play drums and bass.
